7 Convenience Stores Raided in Tampa Drug Bust: What to Know If You’re Facing Charges

A Message from Rodriguez & Williamson, PLLC – Criminal Defense Attorneys in Tampa

On November 6, 2025, a major drug bust swept across the Tampa area, resulting in the arrest of more than a dozen store owners and clerks. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) conducted simultaneous raids at seven convenience stores, primarily located in the University area, as part of a month-long undercover investigation.

The charges involve alleged sales of synthetic marijuana (“Spice”), THC edibles, cocaine, mushrooms, and other illegal substances. The bust also led to the seizure of over $40,000 in cash.

For anyone arrested or under investigation in connection with this or similar operations, the consequences are serious. Legal representation is critical.

What Happened?

According to official reports, HCSO conducted undercover stings at the following stores:

  • Sunset Market and Deli: 18440 Livingston Ave, Lutz
  • Discount Food Mart: 1709 E Bearss Ave, Tampa
  • Aladdin Market: 2202 E Bearss Ave, Tampa
  • Quick Mart Citgo: 701 E Bearss Ave, Tampa
  • Marathon Gas Station: 309 E Fletcher Ave, Tampa
  • Food Town Supermarket: 1904 E 131st Ave, Tampa
  • Silver Dollar Foods: 4330 N 40th Street, Tampa

Employees are alleged to have sold:

  • Synthetic marijuana (K2/Spice)
  • THC gummies and concentrates
  • Cocaine
  • Psilocybin mushrooms
  • Sativa resin

This type of bust is part of a growing trend across Florida targeting convenience stores accused of selling illegal controlled substances.

The Dangers of “Spice” and THC Products

While often labeled as “herbal incense” or sold under the radar, synthetic marijuana can be extremely dangerous. Health experts warn it can be up to 100x stronger than traditional cannabis and is more accessible to youth and low-income communities.

Potential health risks include:

  • Psychosis or severe mental health issues
  • Cardiac problems
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Dangerous intoxication requiring hospitalization

Regardless of the perceived “mildness” of the substances involved, Florida law treats the sale, possession, and distribution of synthetic cannabinoids and THC derivatives as serious felonies.

What Are the Charges?

Those arrested in this operation are likely facing:

  • Possession with intent to distribute
  • Sale of controlled substances
  • Maintaining a structure for drug sales
  • Conspiracy charges
  • Potential federal charges, depending on product classification

Many of these are first-degree or second-degree felonies, carrying potential penalties of:

  • Years in prison
  • Thousands in fines
  • Permanent felony records
  • Business license suspension or closure

Legal Rights of the Accused

If you are arrested, there are certain rights afforded to the defendant:

  1. You are innocent until proven guilty
  2. You have the right to remain silent
  3. You have the right to an attorney before speaking with police
